Selection process

Final merit is based mainly on Tier-II scores, provided you qualify computer knowledge and the skill/typing module. Multi-shift scores are normalised. Separate cut-offs may apply for notified DEO posts, other DEO posts and LDC/JSA.

Tier-I pattern

• 60 minutes in all, with about 15 minutes per section (80 minutes / 20 minutes per part for eligible scribe cases).
• Objective MCQs. Parts II–IV are in English, Hindi and the language chosen on the form.
• −0.50 for each wrong answer.

Tier-I topic list

English Language

• Spot the error, fill in the blanks, sentence improvement
• Synonyms / antonyms, idioms, one-word substitution, spelling
• Voice and narration
• Cloze test and unseen passage

General Intelligence

• Analogy, classification, number/letter/figure series
• Coding–decoding, blood relation, direction, order and ranking
• Venn diagrams, basic calendar/clock, light puzzles / seating
• Non-verbal: mirror/water images, paper folding, figure completion, embedded figures

Quantitative Aptitude

• Number system, HCF–LCM, simplification, fractions and decimals
• Percentage, ratio, average, profit and loss, simple and compound interest
• Time and work, time and distance, mixture, partnership
• Basic algebra, introductory line/triangle/circle geometry
• Mensuration (2-D/3-D), elementary trigonometry, heights and distances
• Data interpretation: tables and bar/pie/line charts

General Awareness

• Indian history, art and culture, geography, economy, polity
• Everyday science
• Current events, awards, sport, books, major institutions

Tier-II pattern (one day, two sessions)

• Session-I is Sections I–III (about 2 hours 15 minutes) with sectional timers.
• −1 for a wrong answer in Sections I–III.
• Every section must be qualified. The computer module is compulsory but qualifying.

Tier-II subjects — same core, harder questions

Maths, reasoning, English and GA overlap with Tier-I but go deeper. Also cover:

• Maths: statistics and elementary probability, more geometry/mensuration, applied algebra and trigonometry.
• English: longer comprehension, para jumbles, tighter grammar.
• Computer knowledge: organisation of a computer, CPU/memory/I-O, Windows basics, MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint, internet and email, networking basics, malware, shortcuts, introductory cyber safety.

Skill test and typing

• DEO (departments in para 8.1 of the notice): about 15,000 key depressions per hour, 15 minutes.
• Other DEO posts: about 8,000 key depressions per hour, 15 minutes.
• LDC / JSA typing: 35 w.p.m. in English or 30 w.p.m. in Hindi (Mangal font only), 10 minutes. The medium chosen on the form is final.

How to use this

• Prepare Tier-I and Tier-II together — the subject overlap is large and the gap between papers is short.
• Practise with sectional timers; negative marking punishes blind guesses.
• Drill computer knowledge and typing/skill every day; they are qualifying but you cannot enter merit without them.
