Posts and GATE papers

The candidate must appear in the matching paper and qualify. Qualifying marks are those declared by the GATE 2027 organising body. POWERGRID may also use these scores for other posts in its subsidiaries.

Eligibility

Only Indian nationals aged 18 years or above may apply. The upper age is 28 years as on 31.03.2027. Relaxation, for posts reserved for the category, is 3 years for OBC (NCL), 5 years for SC/ST, and for PwBD 10 years for UR/EWS, 13 years for OBC (NCL) and 15 years for SC/ST. Ex-servicemen and victims of riots follow Government of India directives.

The degree is a full-time B.E., B.Tech or B.Sc. (Engg.) from a recognised university or institute, with at least 60 percent or an equivalent CGPA. Electrical covers Electrical, Electrical (Power), Electrical and Electronics, Power Systems Engineering and Power Engineering (Electrical). Electronics covers Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Electronics and Telecommunication, Electronics and Electrical Communication, and Telecommunication Engineering. Civil is Civil Engineering. Computer Science covers Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Information Technology. A degree in another discipline is not eligible, unless POWERGRID later accepts it. Final-year students who expect results by 31.08.2027 may apply if they have 60 percent up to the pre-final examination. Selection then depends on 60 percent in the essential qualification. For SC, ST and PwBD, the marks relaxation to pass marks applies only for posts reserved for that category in the later detailed advertisement.

OBC (NCL) certificate must be based on income for FY 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26 and issued on or after 01.04.2026. The EWS income and asset certificate must be based on FY 2025-26 and issued on or after 01.04.2026. PwBD applicants need a permanent disability of not less than 40 percent, a medical certificate and a UDID card. The advertisement lists the PwBD sub-categories post-wise.

Pay, fee and bond

During the one-year training the pay scale is Rs. 40,000-3%-1,40,000 (IDA). Basic pay is Rs. 40,000, with IDA, HRA and perks at 12 percent of basic pay. The advertisement puts the approximate CTC at Rs. 11.00 lakh a year during training and Rs. 22.50 lakh after successful training. CTC varies with the place of posting. After training, absorption is as Engineer in E2, Rs. 50,000-3%-1,60,000 (IDA).

The service bond is Rs. 5,00,000 for General, OBC (NCL) and EWS, and Rs. 2,50,000 for SC, ST and PwBD, to finish training and then serve at least three years.

The fee is paid in the candidate login when the POWERGRID form is open. Payment completes the application. The selection steps will be in the notice issued before that registration. Applicants need sound health under POWERGRID medical norms. Postings are largely at site offices across the country, and the management can post a candidate in India or abroad.
