Eligibility

Age as on 1 January 2027: 21 to 32 years (born between 2 January 1995 and 1 January 2006). Relaxation: SC/ST 5 years, OBC 3 years, eligible government servants 5 years, ESM 5 years, PwBD 10 years.

  • Geologist / Assistant Geologist: Master’s in Geological Science, Geology, Applied Geology, Mineral Exploration, Marine Geology, Earth Science or related fields.

  • Geophysics posts: Master’s in Physics, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Exploration or Marine Geophysics.

  • Chemistry posts: Master’s in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry.

  • Hydrogeology posts: Master’s in Geology, Applied Geology, Marine Geology or Hydrogeology.

Applicants must be Indian citizens. Other categories need the certificates listed in the notice. Choose only one stream even if you qualify for more.

Selection and exam pattern

Three stages: Prelims (400 marks, two objective papers, one-third negative marking), Mains (600 marks, three descriptive papers), Personality Test (200 marks). Grand total 1,200.

Prelims: General Studies 100 marks (2 hours) plus a stream paper of 300 marks (2 hours).

Mains: Each paper is 3 hours and 200 marks. Geology/Hydrogeology: Geology I, Geology II, Hydrogeology. Geophysics and Chemistry: three subject papers each.

  1. Create an account on upsconline.nic.in.

  2. Generate your Universal Registration Number (URN).

  3. Complete the Common Application Form with photograph, live photo and signature.

  4. Open Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027 and select one stream.

  5. Pick Prelims centres, pay Rs 200 if applicable, submit and save the slip.
